Designing A Home For Your Growing Family? 4 Features You Need To Include

by Kyle Brown

If you're designing a custom home for your growing family, you want to include features that will make life easier for you. Of course, you'll want to include plenty of cabinets throughout the house and kid-friendly flooring. However, you'll also want to go beyond that, especially where the extras are concerned. Here are just four additional features you'll want to include in the designs for your new home.

Central Vacuum

If you have young children, you need to expect the occasional mess, especially where the floor is concerned. If you're planning to clean the messes with a traditional vacuum, you may be dragging your vacuum throughout the house on a daily basis. Unfortunately, that can make cleanups time consuming and cumbersome. The best way to take the work out of the cleanup is to include a central vacuum in your home design plans. That way, you have access to to a vacuum wherever it's needed.

Upgraded Laundry Room

If you're like most people, you plan your laundry room around the washing machine and dryer. However, when you have children, you need to go beyond those two elements. You actually need to upgrade your new laundry room to include features that will laundry time much easier. First, you want to include a utility sink for those messy cleanups. Second, be sure to include a floor drain in the design. That way, you won't have a flooded mess to deal with should your washing machine overflow. It's also a good idea to include a drying station for laundry that needs to be flat dried.

Air Purification System

If you have children who suffer from allergies or other breathing-related medical conditions, you'll want to add an air purification system to your home design. Dust and pollen can create a serious problem for your children, especially when there is no way to clear the air. The best way to clear the air and create a healthy atmosphere for your kids is to invest in a whole-house air purification system.

Water Treatment System

Finally, if you're designing a new home, don't miss out on the opportunity to provide clean water for your family. When you have young children, you need to know that the water that comes from the faucets is safe for them to drink. You also need to ensure that the water has a clean taste that your children will enjoy. To ensure both of those requirements, talk to your contractor about including a water treatment system in your home designs.
