Hot Water Not Hot Enough? Know What You Can Do About It

by Kyle Brown

Did you feel like your hot water heater is not getting hot enough? If so, here are some things that you can do about increasing the water temperature.

Adjust The Thermostat

You may not be aware that there is a thermostat on your hot water heater that can adjust the temperature. It is worth upping the temperature on the thermostat and see if that makes a difference. You may be shocked to learn that someone in your household messed with the thermostat settings and turned it down, and your hot water heater is still in great condition and capable of producing hot water. Just make sure not to turn the thermostat all the way up, because it is possible to generate hot water that can be scalding hot and burn the hands of a child that doesn't mix in cold water.

Install A Tankless Water Heater

Do you struggle to get enough hot water as the last person that is showering in the morning? This can happen from having a hot water tank and everyone using all of the hot water before it gets to you. The tank then struggles to generate the water you need when it is mostly cold water in the tank. The solution to this problem is to make the switch to a tankless water heater. These appliances don't have a water reserve tank but produce the hot water as you need it. This means that the temperature of the water coming out of the tankless hot water heater should be consistent at all times.

The only downfall to a tankless hot water heater is that you will need to buy a more powerful water heater if you have several full bathrooms. You may find that a low-end water heater struggles with creating a lot of hot water that is used at the same time by multiple people showering.

Install A Point Of Use Water Heater

Know that you can always install a point-of-use water heater where you need the help the most. For example, if you like the water temperature in your home, but a specific bathroom seems to struggle because of how far away it is from the hot water tank, consider installing a tankless water heater near the bathroom. This will ensure that you have plenty of hot water when showering, while the other water heater powers your kitchen, laundry room, and other places that use hot water.
