3 Common Plumbing Issues A Plumbing Contractor Can Help You Fix

by Kyle Brown

Water is a basic necessity, and the lack of it can cause major inconveniences in your home. You may attempt to remedy water supply problems with simple DIY solutions. However, if these fail, you know it's time to call a plumber. Plumbing contractors have the experience, knowledge, and tools to deal with all plumbing problems. Here are a few issues a plumbing contractor can fix in your home or office.

1. Water Heater Problems

You might have a plumbing issue if your shower and hot water taps don't have hot water. Such problems often occur when the water heater in your house doesn't function as it should. One of the leading causes of a malfunctioning water heater is leaks from a nearby plumbing connection. The problem could also result from loose heating elements, a broken gasket, or a leaking water tank.

Whichever the reason for your hot water shortage, you need a professional plumbing contractor to inspect your water heater. The plumber can resolve some of these problems or refer you to technicians who can. For instance, a plumber can fix a leaking water tank or a loose plumbing connection. However, they will refer you to an electrician if your water heater has electrical problems.

2. Blocked Drains

If your kitchen and bathroom drains malfunction, you might have to deal with drainage inconveniences and foul smells from the drains. Some causes of blocked drains are chunks of stuck waste and grease buildup. You can unclog your drains by pouring in hot water. This tactic is viable when clearing grease clogs. However, if the drains remain clogged after using your DIY solutions, it's time to call the plumber.

Plumbers have the tools and expertise to unclog even the most difficult drains. They can also give you tips to avoid similar issues in the future and repair any broken parts of your drainage system.

3. Low or Intermittent Water Pressure

Low water pressure is a nuisance when you shower or need to do laundry. It can also cause damage to your fixtures, such as broken heating elements. Some of the causes of low or intermittent water pressure include:

  • A buildup of debris in the water pipes
  • Corrosion
  • A broken pressure regulator

Once you notice low water pressure in your home, confirm that it's not a widespread problem by checking with the neighbors about their water pressure. If you find this problem unique to your household, call a plumbing contractor to fix it.
