Questions About Having Mulch Delivered To Your Home

by Kyle Brown

If you need mulch for your garden beds, the easiest way to get it is usually to call a landscaping company and have them deliver the mulch. This way, you do not have to lug heavy bags of mulch home from the store. Bulk mulch also tends to be cheaper, overall, than bagged mulch. With those details noted, you may still have a few questions you'd like answered before you have mulch delivered. Keep reading for the answers.

Is it worth paying more for the better mulch?

Most mulch delivery companies offer a couple of different "grades" of mulch. If you can afford the more expensive mulch, it is often worth paying for. More expensive mulch tends to have larger pieces of wood or bark in it, which means it will last longer and won't break down as fast. It also tends to be dyed more heavily, which means its color won't bleach out as quickly. At the same time, cheaper mulch is definitely better than no mulch at all. If you can only afford the lower-end mulch, it will still do a reasonable job of protecting your garden beds from weeds, erosion, and other damage.

Where can the delivery company dump the mulch?

Mulch is usually delivered in dump trucks. These are large vehicles, so they cannot always be maneuvered into a backyard. If you do not have a wide lane to access your backyard, you may need to have the mulch delivery company dump the mulch into your front yard. Luckily, mulch is not that heavy, so you can pretty easily use a wheelbarrow to move the mulch into your backyard, if needed.

Can you have mulch dumped on a tarp?

Yes. If you want to protect your grass or driveway, you can absolutely put down a tarp and have the delivery company dump the mulch onto it. This is quite common among customers. Just make sure the tarp you use is large since mulch tends to spread out into a pretty large pile when dumped. You can put a few stones or cinder blocks down on the far end of the tarp to prevent it from being dragged forward when the delivery truck drives forward, off of the tarp.

Hopefully, this article has given you some more insight into having mulch delivered and what that involves. Every delivery company is a bit different, so if you have more specific questions, feel free to reach out to the mulch company you plan on hiring.
